Which Is Better Film Or Digital Photography

Photography is a creative medium of self expression. Some have it as their hobby while some have made it their profession.

People have different perspectives on this subject - Is traditional photography better than the digital system? The answer can vary as per their convenience or their requirement with the equipment. It is however important to understand the pros and cons of both the modern as well as the traditional photography.

Why Do Some Prefer Film Over Digital?

Investment

A digital camera cannot be afforded by all ordinary photographers. A 35mm camera is still far superior to a digital camera. If a person wishes to switch over to the digital era, he can find himself spending huge amounts if his camera and accessories are not compatible with the new system.

Wide Angles

Extreme wide angles and slow start up time are some flaws in a digital camera. Photographers using a 35mm will find it difficult to accept the limitation with the digital system.

Action

Film cameras can be used in any unexpected situation. You have the possibility of running out of batteries with a digital camera and can take several seconds to start up which may not be ready all the time to capture candid shots.

Tough

Needless to say, old is gold. Film cameras are definitely sturdier and tougher and can be your friend even during unpredictable weather conditions.

Cost

This can vary with your usage. If you have a heavy usage you may want to consider digital. However, light photography is still best suited cost wise with a film camera.

Myths About Digital Camera

Inferior

Digital cameras definitely are in pace with film. The best cameras sometimes exceed the capabilities of film. The best digital cameras have sharpness, color and lack of grain that can definitely be at par with film and sometimes even better.

Big and Heavy

Today's digital cameras are available in different sizes and shapes and do not sacrifice on quality or features of an earlier chunky model.

Slow to start

The best digital cameras are definitely responsive and at the same level as a traditional one. However, not all digital equipment fire start and there are still a few which are slow to start.

Expensive

This is best answered based on your usage. If you shoot a lot of photos and have to spend on your prints and have a regular business in hand, it is best to go in for digital equipment.

No Good Software to Edit and Print

There are several companies now offering software at an affordable cost with full featured applications for viewing and adjusting the photos.

The world of photography has room for both digital and traditional cameras. Digital cameras show the advancement in technology in the modern world. Photographers can choose either of the methods to produce their best work that can become sweet memories for generations to come.
