How do I use Picasa 2? It's so complicated?

I just downloaded Picasa 2 from Google. I dont have photoshop or anything, it's just Picasa and some Microsoft Photo Edit thing. I want to be able to change the color of my picture, suppose to black and white, or something like that, and I want to add captioning, and doodle on it or something.
